“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
– I Peter 4:10
The Serving Teams of E-Free exist to mobilize people to partner with missions locally, nationally and around the world. Together we will passionately serve others in the name of Jesus.
Serving at Church
If you are exploring how God could best use you, we encourage you to take part in our next Discovery Class where you will discover the beliefs of EFCA, the values of E-Free and how God has created you to serve. Our desire is to help you understand how God has uniquely made you for ministry and equip you to serve at E-Free, in our community and around the world.
The Food Ministry helps distribute food from our local food bank to families in our area. Many of these families were formerly homeless and are now working to make it on their own. The Food Ministry needs five to ten volunteers each month, including drivers as a few families are without transportation. Donations of non-perishables are needed; including canned goods, cereal, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. There is a collection basket in the west vestibule. Multiples of six are appreciated.
Safe Harbor, Distribution and Rides Ministry
Join us on the fourth Wednesday night of the month in preparing and serving food to the homeless. Each week we need three to twelve volunteers. Plan to arrive at 6:45pm. Dinner is served at 7:00pm. Special workdays and relationship building trips are also planned from time to time. Help those in need through your donations of clothing, furniture, dishes, appliances, and bed/bath linens. We also need van drivers to pick up people for church and/or special events.
Home Sweet Home Ministries
Join us as we partner with HSH ministries by providing volunteers for sorting donations in their warehouse, serving meals to residents, teaching a skills class, tutoring kids, and much more. Volunteer opportunities vary based on time of year and needs. Also – make use of our clothing donation bin in the church parking lot. All proceeds go directly to support Home Sweet Home.
Do you like to read to children? Help is needed with reading programs during the week at Sheridan School located at 1403 W. Walnut St., Bloomington, IL 61701. This ministry will break for the summer and resume in September.
Currently, Reading Volunteers are needed. The Reading Specialist at Sheridan has shared, that this program has helped children who are behind to greatly improve. Volunteers meet with a child at the school on a regular basis to help the child with his or her reading skills on a one-on-one basis.
Back Pack Program
During the school year, we provide backpacks every Friday filled with food for at-risk children at Sheridan School. We meet every Thursday evening at 4pm to sort the food and fill the backpacks. The process takes 45 minutes to an hour. Children over eight are welcome to join their parents to help.
Single Moms carry the bulk of the parenting responsibilities and often also work a full time job. 45% of single moms hold down more than one job and 85% are living below the poverty line (for those under 25). Their role in shaping and nurturing the next generation is heavier because they are doing it alone.
God cares about these precious families, and we as a church care also. We have been focusing some of our volunteer resources in the area of serving single moms and their children for the past several years.
Single Moms Morning Out
A strategic event to serve single moms and their children. Hundreds of volunteers come together to give moms the morning off while their children are lovingly cared for. Opportunities for the moms include spa services, car care, breakfast, our Abundant Blessings area, Gift bags and take home lunches, one-on-one prayer and encouragement and much more. Consider how you will help out with the Single Mom’s Morning Out! This year's event will be held Saturday, April 29. Contact RebeccaS@efreebn.org for more information.
Single Mom Small Groups
Single moms come together to encourage each other and share life experiences. In these times, these moms are reminded that they have a group of women who are there for them and God is there for them too. They see the truth of Hebrews 13:5 “I will never leave you or forsake you.”

Our Transition Team provides support for other E-Free mission partners and “home grown missionaries” by facilitating partnering teams for each missionary. These partners receive a financial commitment that is phased out over three years to help support and launch them into ministry. Our transition team works to organize a base of individual support from our community.
