“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
– I Peter 4:10

The Serving Teams of E-Free exist to help people in our congregation find ways to serve locally, nationally, and around the world. Our vision is to help those attending E-Free find one place to serve within the church and one place to serve out in the local community. We desire to actively show God's love in our community by serving in Jesus' name.

Serving at Church

If you are exploring how God could best use you in serving at E-Free, we encourage you to fill out a Sample Serve card (located in the chairbacks in the worship center) and drop it in the offering basket on any Sunday morning. Sample Serve is an opportunity to try out your choice of a serving area with no obligation. Our desire is to help you discover how God has uniquely made you for ministry, so that we can encourage and equip you to serve. For more information, contact Rebecca Sommer at rebeccas@efreebn.org.

Serving Locally

Community Ministries

Compassion Ministry

  • Food Distribution: This ministry helps distribute food from a local food bank to families in our area. Food Distribution happens the first Wednesday of the first full week, once a month. Volunteer opportunities include picking up food (go to Midwest Food Bank at 11:30am the day of distribution with E-Free's van and trailer), helping unload the trailer at 6:00pm, and assisting to sort/pass out food during the distribution.
  • Donations of non-perishables are needed; including canned goods, cereal, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. There is a collection basket at the west entrance to the church. Multiples of six are appreciated.
  • Donations of clothing, dishes, appliances, etc can be accepted to share with those in need.

Sheridan School

E-Free has been blessed to serve the students and families at Sheridan school through volunteer opportunities such as the reading program, Trunk or Treat, childcare for PTA meetings each month, donating items to the school store, and helping at the Teacher Appreciation Lunch each spring. For more information about serving in any of these areas, contact Connie Unruh at the email address listed below.

Operation Backpack

During the school year, we provide backpacks filled with food for at-risk children at Sheridan School. Each Thursday, volunteers spend 45 minutes to 1 hour at Sheridan, preparing backpacks filled with food donated from Midwest Food Bank. Once a month, a volunteer picks up food from Midwest Food Bank and transfers it to the school.

Single Moms

Single Moms carry the bulk of the parenting responsibilities and often also work a full time job. Their role in shaping and nurturing the next generation is heavier because they are doing it alone. God cares about these precious families, and we as a church care also.

Single Moms Morning Out

An all-church event designed to serve single moms and their children. Hundreds of volunteers from E-Free and local community organizations come together to give moms the morning off while their children are lovingly cared for. Opportunities for the moms include spa services, car care, breakfast, our Abundant Blessings area, Gift bags and take home lunches, one-on-one prayer and encouragement and much more. This event happens each spring in early May.

A Disaster Relief Trip is planned for  December 30, 2017-January 6, 2018 with a team heading to Houston, TX to assist hurricane rebuilding efforts.

A second Disaster Relief Trip is planned for March 25-30, 2018. If you are interested in finding out more, contact Darrell and Mary Ellen Andris at dwandri@ilstu.edu.

A team of adults will be traveling to Haiti for a medical missions trip on June 10-June 16, 2018. If you are interested, contact Tanya Blumenshine at twolfe67@aol.com.

Transition Team

Our Transition Team provides support for other E-Free mission partners and “home grown missionaries” by facilitating partnering teams for each missionary. These partners receive a financial commitment that is phased out over three years to help support and launch them into ministry. Our transition team works to organize a base of individual support from our community.
